Welcome to 8th grade Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra!

Expectations

  1. Be on time:  You should be in the room and in your seat when the class starts.  Homeroom:  if you are not in class the previous day, FOR WHATEVER REASON, you need to bring an admit (parent note, dr. note) to class.  If you do not bring one to class, it will be considered an unexcused absence.
  2. Be in your seat:  For your safety, you need to sit in your seat as soon as you walk in the door.  You need to wait to sharpen pencils and throw trash away.  This is an 8th grade rule and should be followed in all classes.  If you are not in your seat, you will be given a warning for the first offense, a blue form for the second and detention for the third.
  3. Be prepared:  You should bring your textbook, pencil, paper, planner, workbook and notebook to each class.
  4. Complete all assignments:  In order to be a good student, most of us need to practice skills we are expected to learn.  You will usually have plenty of time in class to work on assignments, but you are also expected to work outside of class when needed.  Answers without work are not worth any credit in this class.
  5. Keep a notebook:  It should be brought to class each day.  Your notebook should be kept in a three-ring notebook.  This will be your extra credit opportunity for each 9 weeks.  It needs to be divided into two sections:

·         1st section-notes (dated)

·         2nd section-anything that I have returned to you with a grade on it (this will help if there are any questions about lost work).

  1. Make up work:  Make up work needs to be made up in a reasonable amount of time; generally, we give as many days as absent for make-up work.  My assignment notebook is in the back of the room and you are welcome to look through it to check on your make-up work at any time.  I am also available 2nd period every day for extra math help.
  2. Algebra:  If you are in my Algebra class, you are expected to maintain an 85 average.  If your average drops, then we will need to review your placement in Algebra.  Note:  Gateway exam is on May 5, 2009.
