Laurie Routt was born in Harmony, Minnesota to Paul and Marian Johnson. She went to school in Cresco, Iowa and
graduated in 1982. Mrs. Routt attended college at UNI and received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1987.
She did long term sub positions at Nashua High School and Oelwein Elementary. Her first teaching job was in the Waterloo
Schools at McKinstry Elementary, Hoover Intermediate, Irving Elementary and West High School. Mrs. Routt worked in the
Waterloo schools for 2 years. She was high school and middle school band director at Wapsie Valley for 9 years
before coming to Union Middle School. Some of her best memories were the high school band trips to St. Louis
and Washington, D.C. She has currently held the position as elementary band director at Dysart-Geneseo Elementary and
middle school band director at Union Middle School in Dysart for 10 years. Mrs. Routt is married to Terry Routt
and they have a son named Carter who is currently 2 years old. Mrs. Routt has played French horn in the Metropolitan
Brass Quintet for 22 years. The group performs for weddings, recitals, churches and other civic events. Their
music covers sacred, classical, dixieland and jazz. Mrs. Routt and her family live in Jesup.
