BLUE SERGE PRODUCTIONS
Steve Clorfeine

(845) 626-3096

goldsun1@earthlink.net

Mr. Clorfeine uses the creative process of theater to allow

each child to participate with her or his imagination and at

her own level as a bridge to deeper learning and to authentic

communication.  Theater is a direct and adept form to reveal

this imaginative world and fosters confidence and openness

in self-expression.  Exercises are employed which integrate

mental activity with physical activity, promoting the value of

form and improvisation as learning methods.

In Theater on the Spot for Grades 2-12, exercises in voice,

gesture and movement are employed along with improvisation

games which develop images, language and characters.   A

simple "work in progress" showing culminates the program.

In Putting up the Show for Grades 3-12 a curriculum-based

theme, text, or topic from literature, history, or other associated

studies is used. Everyone participates in writing, acting, costuming,

stage design.  Choruses and multiple voices are used to include

all students and to direct the energy of the group as an ensemble.

Steve Clorfeine has been writing, performing and directing

theater pieces since 1975. Blue Serge Suite, Current Memories,

Sense and Nonsense, Part of My History and While I Was Dancing,

have been performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. Steve

performed for many years in the companies of Barbara Dilley,

Meredith Monk, and Ping Chong.  He is on the theater faculty

of Naropa University, teaches theater and writing residencies

in public schools, art centers and universities here and abroad.

Contact: Penny Clayton, Manager
(845) 255-8163
Hudson River Playback Theater has conducted workshops with over 10,000 students from Grades 2 through 12.  In a Playback Theater show, students are invited to tell their personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings, and then watch as actors enact their stories on the spot.  Seeing their personal stories brought to life on stage enables students to understand their own and other children's experiences in a new way.  It promotes empathy and reduces isolation.

A troubling story can become an opportunity for the teller and other students to explore alternative actions.  HRPT helps to create a shared frame of reference for further classroom discussion.  Everyone can remember and refer to the stories that were shared in the performance.

Workshops have included a series for 6th Graders on Bullying, Cultural Awareness Series Post 9/11 for Grades 2-12, and Building Respect for High School students.

The Wayfinder Experience is a completely unique program. Combining theatre, sports, teambuilding, fine arts, play and traditional camp elements, workshops provide one of the most exciting, fun, healthy and positive experiences available for children ages 6-16.

A seasoned staff of actors, musicians, teachers and artists leads participants through a series of interactive programs that teach trust, leadership, community and respect. These programs take the form of side-splittingly funny improvisational theatre training, high-energy non-competitive physical games, fascinating mask and movement workshops, props and sets crafting and creative expression.
The culmination of this curriculum is The Adventure Game – an interactive story, usually medieval in nature, where participants create characters and relationships and live out a story pulled from myth and legend. A participant can be a noble knight searching desperately for a holy relic, or a beautiful fairy princess magically healing wounded soldiers, or anything their imagination can create.
