Each year, over 33,000 students and teachers learn more about music at Carnegie Hall.
A variety of programs for the education community are available for teachers, schools, and students of various ages.
Some transportation funding assistance may be available.
Welcome to the inaugural
season of Musical Explorers! This new music education program allows second and third graders to discover the families of orchestral instruments—woodwinds,
strings, brass, and percussion—through songs, activities, and listening games. Carnegie Hall's LinkUP! program for students in grades 4-6 is a comprehensive program that includes a teacher workshop and concert at Carnegie
Hall. The curriculum teaches basic musical concepts and musical literacy while exposing students to high quality classical
music performances.
Focusing on a
different region of the world each year, Carnegie Hall's Global Encounters program integrates world music and cultures into high school social studies and music classrooms. For each High School Choral Festival, four choirs of high school-age students, chosen by tape audition, will appear in a concert at Carnegie Hall. Each choir
will sing ten minutes of repertoire individually, then all of the choirs will join forces with the Orchestra of St. Luke's
to present a major choral work.

Songwriting is a process of self-discovery, a way
to focus knowledge and experience, build communication skill and confidence, and explore personal values. With these things
in mind, Sam Leopold helps students in Grades 6-12 to get at the meaning of songs and guide them in the practice
of writing. He uses a range of subjects and interests, such as language, drama, history, psychology, social studies, even
math and science in this process.
Sam also teaches teenagers who have special needs, helping them focus on perceptions and
personal identity. We express what they see by writing songs together that contain their ideas and feelings. They then have
a sense of ownership in the artistic outcome. CDs are produced of the songs they write together, which the students can
keep for future enjoyment.
Sam
was mentored by the legendary Oscar Brown Jr., played concerts and clubs on bills with the likes of Emilu Harris, Pete
Seeger, Bonnie Raitt, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Charles Mingus among others, and produced the highly acclaimed album, Sam
Leopold.

THE ZUCCHINI BROTHERS
Interactive Concerts
|
|
The Zucchini Brothers play at hundreds of elementary schools throughout the Country....and for good reason: They are certified
teachers themselves; They've written music to go along with the K-6th grade curriculum; And most importantly a day with The
Zucchini Brothers is a good time for all-full of fun, humor and lots of participation! The focus is on health, self-esteem,
and the environment. The Zucchini Brothers believe that if you take care of yourself (health), and feel good about yourself
(self-esteem), you'll take better care of the world around you (your environment).
Assemblies are designed for specific elementary school age groups: one for the K-2nd grades, and another program with different
music for 3rd-5th/6th grades. The assembly is typically 45-50 minutes with an emphasis on audience participation-lots of fun,
singing and learning!Programs can also be tailored to fit a specific topic or theme your school is concentrating on (i.e.
the PARP program, respect, sharing, etc...)
SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS during a classroom session last approximately an hour, students explore the craft of songwriting
by writing and recording a song that is uniquely their own, based on a theme or curriculum-related topic. Coached by
Jack and Steve Zucchini (with guitar and keyboard), students work cooperatively to create a musical composition by brainstorming
ideas, writing lyrics, and composing a melody. The outcome is a new song and personal experience with the creative process!
The piece is then rehearsed by the class and recorded to a tape which the school gets to keep!
