Integers

Websites:
Marble Tool (Click Marbel Model - Open)
This site helps visually demonstrate how to add unlike integers. You can use it to check your work.

This site has a ton of virtual manipulatives to try out. The direct link will take you to Color Chips. Color Chips is way to practice adding unlike integers. It gives you the problem you must then use the chips to show the problem. Then match (drag) a + and a - to cancel chips out and find the answer.

Click 'View Free' and see a short slide show presentation introducing positive and negative numbers.

An online quiz and practice site for adding integers.

Integers are any whole number. Negative integers are less that zero. Positive integers are greater than zero.

Like integers means that the integers are all positive or they are all negative. Unlike integers means that it is a positive and a negative integer.

When adding Like integers add like you normally would and keep the sign.
-8 + -4 = -12        9 + 5 = 14      -8 + -1 = -9

When adding Unlike integers, it is like subtracting. The integer that is farthest from zero is the sign that will be used in the answer.
-7 + 4 = -3      5 + -6 = -1     4 + -2 = 2       -3 + 9 = 6
