What's happening?

6th Grade Language Arts:

6th graders continue to read the novel The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster. Our literature focus has been making predictions, understanding the book's play on words, analyzing characters, and developing vocabulary skills.

6th graders are responsible for vocabulary worksheets and comprehension questions weekly. All section assignments are due on Fridays. As we finish reading the book, many due dates are quickly approaching...

April 24th- Chapters 17-20 Vocabulary
April 29th- The Phantom Tollbooth Book Test
May 1st- The Phantom Tollbooth Vocabulary Test
May 2nd- Book Projects due

In spelling, 6th graders are focusing on commonly misspelled words and words with -ed and -ing endings. Spelling pretests are given on Mondays, and spelling tests are normally given every Friday.

8th Grade Language Arts:

8th graders are reading The Adventure of The Speckled Band, a Sherlock Holmes mystery. The selection test will be on Friday, April 25th. Our focus is searching for clues and evidence while reading a mystery.

Our next story in language arts will focus on reading nonfiction material. The story is called "Animal Craftsmen," We will be learning about how to evaluate an author's point-of-view as we read.

In spelling, students are focusing on Latin roots. Spelling pretests are given on Monday, and spelling tests are given on Friday. All students are encouraged to study their spelling words nightly.

8th Graders are working on their research paper using MLA format. All eighth graders need to have at least three textbooks or library books with information about their topic. Currently, eighth graders are writing fact note cards and outlining their paper.

6th Grade Religion:

6th graders are beginning Chapter 10. We are learning about God's good news for the world. Students are focusing on the church as a sign of God's love and power in the world. The Chapter 10 test will be Friday, May 3rd.
