Greetings from Mrs. Heyn,

Rulers, protractors, calculators and your brain are all you need to make math exciting. Together we will graph, calculate and problem-solve and learn about math.  I plan to make math have meaning in your life and I will show you how math can open doors to any profession, now and in the future.  The world is at your feet and math is the path to success.

Events and Announcements
The first quarter is over and now we need to begin our fraction units.  Did you know that decimals, fractions and percents all work together?

Now that it is second quarter we will be doing things a little different.  We still will have homework each day and a quiz every Friday.  Instead of me handing out a daily work sheet you will have the week's packet.  It will be kept in a folder that you will bring to class each day.  If you are absent, the next day's assignment will be in the folder. On Friday I will collect the folder and record your grades. This will keep you and me organized.

In the News
I had the opportunity to attend the regional conference for the National Council of Teachers of Mathmetics this week.  It was great to be with teachers who love to share their passion for teaching.  I have many new ideas and projects to share with my students.  Graphing, geometry, constructions, data, and new approaches for algebra will be added to our projects.  We are going to incorporate more technology in our weekly lessons.  So get ready to work in teams and share the work.  If you have a digital camera it wil be used to find geometry in your neighborhood

Now that you know how much you can earn with a good education and the right profession, we need to master math so all of you can get into a great college.  Do you have any idea how much it will cost for just one year in college?  Sounds like a great topic for a web search,

What other topics would you like to research?  I am sure that they all will involve math.

Meet the Challenge!

Three less than 4 times a number is greater than 4 times the sum of the number and 1. Find all such numbers.

Were you the winner of our shopping spree?  How did you spend your prize money?  Did you have enough for the tax?  Keep thinking decimals it will come in handy for other units.
