Project Page

This page is dedicated to class projects.  We are currently  on the "Famous Mathematician" project.

The Assignment:
For this project you are asked to create a PowerPoint presentation on a famous mathematician.  You will then give a short presentation to the class on your mathematician, as modeled in class.  The PowerPoint should be no longer than 10 slides and no shorter than 5 slides.  This project is worth 50 extra credit points (test points) and must be completed before Spring Break.  This is not a required assignment, but those who wish to take part will be given some class time to work on this assignment.

Other Important Details:

The main points of information I will be looking for in the presentation are:

When did your mathematician live?

Where did/does your mathematician live or grow up?

Where did they get their education?

What did they contribute to the world of mathematics?

Other interests your mathematician had.

Any other information you can find that would be interesting to your audience.

How You Will Be Graded:

You will be graded on several points.  I will be looking at your overall presentation.  Was it effective, did your audience get to know your mathematician?  Did your presentation show that you really know your mathematician?  Did you read directly from the PowerPoint or did you use bulleted statements which you elaborated on?  You must also print out the PowerPoint and hand the print out to me before you present.  The PowerPoint should not be covered with pictures and different effects that draw attention from your presentation.  Make neat, simple, and professional looking!

            20pts               PowerPoint

            20pts               Presentation (your part)

10pts               Overall effect of your project
