What is Family and Consumer Science? I hear all sorts of names for my classes....cooking class, sewing class.....The
official title or curriculum name is Family and Consumer Science. Once upon a time we called it "Home Economics".
We don't call it Home Ec anymore either. Let's move with the times and call it FACS. We are trying to update the
old Betty Crocker (who?) image people associate with Home Ec and keep up with the 21st century. But are you still saying....yeah....But
what is FACS?

Family and Consumer Science is the science (study) of families, how they operate and function, and
the use of goods and services. That's a consumer. FACS covers all the areas of child care and parenting, money
management, food preparation and nutrition, jobs and careers, housing, fashion and textile construction. Research
any of those areas and I bet you could come up with many different careers that stem from those subjects!
