The Diocese of Toledo in an effort to assist schools in assessing students' educational progress, involves schools in testing
each Fall.
For the past five years we have given the Terra Nova tests to students in grades 3,5, & 7.
This year a new format is being used. The "Scantron Performance Series" test in Reading and Math is being given
to students in grades 3 through 8.
The following excerpt is taken from the "Scantron Performance Series" Website. "Performance Series is a
computer-adaptive test that automatically adapts to each student's instructional level.
Performance Series gives educators an accurate snapshot of students' performance across a range of subjects and skills
in far less time then traditional tests. Performance Series assessments are on the web, so educators can view the results
immediately. This enables appropriate placement and tailored instruction right away."
The advantages of this type of testing is that it is linked to standards and students may be retested after remediation
is given to assess gains made.
Parents will be receiving the results with First Quarter Report Cards. More explanation of the results will be necessary
. The results will be explained during conferences, and if necessary a parent meeting.
Students in Grades 5, & 8 take the A.C.R.E. test of Religious knowledge. class results are available in November.
Students in grades 4,6, & 8 take a writing competency test that is scored by Diocesan educators, using a 6 point rubric.
Students follow the format of choosing a prompt, planning their writing, writing a draft, editing the writing and completing
a final copy.
