I have enjoyed teaching at Pearl Creek Elementary School for more than 20 years. We live in the school community, and
I value the opportunity to work with my neighbors and friends.
My husband, Chris, and I moved to Alaska from Michigan in 1981. Chris is Alaska's State Forester, but doesn't get out
in the woods as much as he'd like. Our son, Jordi, attends West Valley High School, and our daughter, Klara, is in college
right here at UAF this year.
In addition to the pleasures of working with children, I enjoy downhill and cross-country
skiing, camping, hiking, and canoeing. I love to read! Be sure to tell me your favorite titles. I like making quilts while
listening to loud rock music! I also enjoy dyeing some of the fabric that goes in the quilts. I like to travel, especially
to hot places, especially during our long winters. During our short summers, I can often be found lounging in the middle of
my flower gardens.

I recently returned to teaching, as a K-3 Math Resource teacher at Denali Elementary School. Prior to that, I was a stay at
home mom, spending time with the loves of my life, and volunteering for favorite organizations around town. It is a joy now
to be working in my neighborhood school, along with friends and community members, and with my children down the hall and
upstairs!
My husband, Ron Harper, and I both hail from New York, although we didn't meet until we came to Alaska in the late 70's.
We both love it here, though I must admit I harbor a strong fondness for New York and also San Francisco. Lucky for me, I
have family and friends in both places, so we get to visit a lot.
I am truly enjoying working at Pearl Creek with 2nd graders! They are so eager to learn new things, quick to laugh, and
fun to be with! When not at work, my top two passions are my family, and telemark skiing. After that, there'd be biking, reading,
road trips, travel, volunteer work, gardening, hanging out with my friends, and dreaming about remodeling my house.
