Purpose:  To be able to use, identify, and appreciate the four components of art:  production, criticism, history and aesthetics.

Objectives:

·          To be able to analyze and evaluate the effective use of elements, principles, and expressive qualities in visual arts.  (Illinois Fine Arts Goal 25.A.4)

·          To be able to analyze and evaluate similar and distinctive characteristics of works in two or more of the arts which share the same historical period or societal context. (25.B.4)

·          To be able to analyze and evaluate how tools/technologies and processes combine to convey meaning in art. (26.A.4e)

·          To be able to evaluate how consumer trends in the arts affect the types and styles of art products  (27.A.4a)

·          To be able to analyze how the arts are used to inform and persuade through traditional and contemporary art forms.  (27.A.4b)

·          To be able to analyze and classify distinguishing characteristics of historical and contemporary works by style, period and culture. (27.B.4a)

·          To understand how the arts change in response to changes in society.  (27.B.4b)

Student Responsibilities:

·          Student homework responsibilities will include written homework, reading, studying for tests, written reports and verbal presentations, etc.

·          In class work will include art production, note taking, tests, quizzes, in class reading and written work, etc.

·          Students will be expected to meet deadlines and use class time in a productive manner.

·          Teacher lectures (note taking), instructional videos (from the Pike County Film co-operative run by the Regional Office of Education), class discussion, and art critique will be part of the class experience.

 

Classroom Rules:

·          School rules/policies apply at all times.  Refer to Student Handbook.

·          All classroom supplies and equipment will be used appropriately, cleaned after use, and returned to designated supply area when not in use.

·          All subject matter is to be school appropriate.
