Our Regents biology students performed a genetics experiment in which they produced baby "Reebops".
The lab reviewed the many topics including meiosis and Mendelian genetics.
During this activity, your students will have the opportunity to observe all of the offspring produced by
one set of reebop parents. Your students will sort Mom and Dad reebop chromosomes, select the new baby reebop chromosomes,
decode the secret code found on the baby reebop chromosomes, and construct the baby reebop according to the code. I like to
tell students that we will be observing meiosis, fertilization, development and birth..all in just one class hour! Each group
of students will be in charge of "assembling" one offspring. After all the babies are born, the reebop family will be put
together so that the offspring can be compared to one another.
