Accelerated Reader
This grading period students need to earn 20 AR points for their second
quarter report card grade. This will account for 10% of the grade. Please make sure to bring home AR books during Christmas
break. Improve reading scores by reading!
Book Report
Students should have their Accelerated Reader books read for creation
of 2nd grading period book reports. Book report presentations will be on Wednesday, December 19th and Thursday, December
20th. Students must create a project ( diorama box, poster, ect.) for the report as well.
Don't forget!
Students! Accelerated Reader is
10% of your grade! Keep up with your reading!

Whenever
you come across a new vocabulary word in your reading, place in on your portable word walls along with the definition. This
is a fine opportunity to receive extra credit at the end of the grading period as well as enrich your vocabulary!!
WORDS OF THE WEEK
Figurative Language - Language that is not based in reality
Simile - a comparison using like/as
Metaphor - a comparison using is/are
Personification - giving human qualities to nonhuman things.

In the News
ISAT Prep Has Begun! Yes, the ISAT test may seem far away but we have already begun to prepare. Several times a week,
I will be giving short exercises that will allow students to become familiarized with the types of questions they will be
facing on the ISAT.
JOURNALS OF THE WEEK:
The makers of the Ed Performance tests, ones that students take 3 times a year, have created
skills tests for the state standards. Each day I give a short quiz displayed on our new technology, Smartboard, for
journals. These tests will strengthen students's grammar skills.
