Hello, First Grade Parents!
First grade will be the most exciting year of growth and learning experiences for your child as she/he progresses from a non-reader to a competent fluent reader who can read, understand, and answer questions.  Your child will be able to use the numbers learned in kindergarten and manipulate them into math problems, telling time, measurement, and constructing graphs.  In writing, he/she will use letters to form words, words to form sentences, and sentences to make stories!

Be the BEST you can be!
The motto for the first grades this year is "Be the BEST you can be!" Throughout the year we will focus our attention on being the best we can be during work and play.  One of the questions that you ask your child each night should be, "What did you do today to be your best?"  Just wait to see what great answers you will hear!

               My Best

Each day I'll do my best,
And I won't do any less.

My work will always please me
And I won't accept a mess.

I'll color very carefully,
My writing will be neat.

And I simply won't be happy
'Til my papers are complete.

I'll always do my homework,
And try on every test.

And I won't forget my promise
To do my very best!
