Gifted and Talented

Summer Camps

There are many summer learning experiences for gifted and talented students at all grade levels.  Just a sampling of some of the camps that MISD GT students have attended (and LOVED) are listed below:
 
 
Camp Invention (offered through McKinney ISD) - details available later in the spring
 
 
The Gifted Student Institute at S.M.U offers numerous camps (K-12) during the summer with choices of classes in the areas of sports, the arts (visual & performing), computer science, physics, paleontology, medical science, literature, writing, law...and many more. 
      Students with strong academic profiles and high SAT or ACT scores are encouraged to take at least one course for college credit.

TAG (talented and gifted) Camps at Texas A&M Galveston:
      for camps that serve students in grades 8-12 in the areas of veterinary medicine,
marine biology, digital photography and technology, pre-medicine, Sea Camps, etc.   Their web site is:

Newton Learning Camps  (this summer at McKinney Fellowship Bible Church)

TAMS (Texas Academy of Math & Science) Summer Math Institute
     at UNT in Denton
For the math whiz in rising grades 7-11, this summer institute is a "not to miss".
 
 
 
 
Summer Chess Camps at UTD  (Univ. of Texas at Dallas)
      UTD's Chess team - the winners of the 2004 Pan-American Chess Tournament - will instruct students in all levels of ability in small, low student-to teacher ratio classes.
 
 
 
 
Shake Hands With Your Future at Texas Tech in Lubbock

Lone Star Leadership Academy - Camps for middle schoolers are held in the Houston and Austin areas and focus on leadership as demonstrated by prominent people who lived in these areas.   Check out their web site:
   
 
 
Access to Careers in Science Camps - Texas Women's University, Denton
These camps focus on career opportunities for women in the mathematics and science fields.  Courses in Anatomy, Biotechnology, Engineering, Environmental Science, and Rocket Science are just a few of the offerings.
