April 6, 2005 (Wednesday) - ALPS Working Meeting - Interested parents invited to attend
       There will be a general discussion about Jan Davidson's session (on April 2)
Parents are encouraged to attend.

April 2, 2005 (Saturday)  Jan Davidson will be in McKinney!
      Jan Davidson, author of "Genius Denied" and co-founder of the Davidson Foundation will be here in McKinney to speak, answer your questions, and sign copies of her book.  This is a "NOT TO MISS" opportunity!
      Where:  McKinney HS Auditorium
      Time:  2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
      Admission:  FREE  (Donations to the Davidson Foundation will be accepted.)
    
March 12, 2005 (Saturday) - McKINNEY I.S.D. CHESS TOURNAMENT
    The tournament is open to all students, K-12. 
Place:  McKinney North High School, cafeteria
Time:  8:30 - 5:00 p.m. 
Registration fee:  $5
        (Registration received after 2/28 or at the door = $8)
There are two divisions of competition: 
             Division I:  Kindergarten - 5th grade
             Division II:  6th grade - 12th grade

January 26, 2005 - Early Registration deadline for the TAGT Parents Conference
 
January 15, 2005  (Saturday) - 9th Grade GT Leadership Retreat to the Leadership Institute at Austin College
     Permission forms are now being accepted for the 5th annual 9th Grade GT Leadership retreat.  This is a very popular event and is limited to the first 50 students who return their signed permission forms to Mrs. DeLisle. 
     Forms will be numbered in the order received.  A waiting list will be made, if necessary, also listed in the order received after the 50 have been designated.

January 10 - February 7, 2005 - Kindergarten screening for ALPHA
       The Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted and Talented Students requires that MISD screen all Kindergartners for giftedness during January and February of their Kindergarten year. That time is here! This effort will require the cancellation of 1st-3rd grade Alpha classes. Your childs Alpha teacher will be administering the tests to the Kindergarten students. The ALPHA classes for 1 st-3rd grade will resume on February 14.

    This is a "not to miss" opportunity!   Nationally and internationally known experts in the field of gifted and talented education will be presenting.
    The parent support and network through TAGT is one of the best nationally. 
 
 
November 15, 2004 (Monday) - ALPHA Information Program, 7-8 p.m.
     If you have questions about McKinney ISD's gifted and talented program, ALPHA, or questions about the law regarding gifted and talented education in Texas, this is an opportunity to talk to the GT specialists for all levels (elementary, middle school and high school).   We will go over the program design and placement criteria.  We will also be discussing the state GT Exit Standards Projects.

November 1, 2004 - Deadline for 2004-05 Duke Talent Search registration  
 
Nominated 7th grade students are eligible to take either the SAT or ACT.  These tests, typically given to high school juniors and seniors, will be given to nominated 7th graders only on several dates set aside for the national talent search.
 
Your child will / should have received the invitation to participate in the talent search if he or she met the nominating critera on the 6th grade TAKS test. (see below).  If you have moved to Texas and your child has assessments from another state, please contact Karen Green, the middle school GT specialist, for the qualifying data on those assessments.
 
To be nominated, students must have earned the scores below on one or both of the math and verbal sections of the 6th grade TAKS test:
