High School Classroom News:

 

The high school class at Poet Seat has had some changes in the past two months.  We said goodbye to two students and welcomed two more!!  A former student is due to come back to us sometime at the end of March.  Everyone is excited about that!! Our class has been working hard and we have been enjoying ourselves in the process.

 

In ELA, we read The Lord of the Flies by William Golding.  The class did many activities based on this novel.  We moved into a poetry unit, first focusing on Harlem Renaissance poets, then Hip Hop poetry, and ended with poems written by the students.  They did an incredible job; it seems we have many excellent poets in this class.  In the past week, we have been reading The Giver by Lois Lowry.  This is a very interesting story that has raised questions about living in a world where a person has no choices and their future is predetermined.  This has been good for conversations about how our society functions.

 

In Math, each student has been working on their individual math lessons.  Some are working on Geometry, some on Algebra, and a couple of students are preparing for the MCAS math.  It’s a lot of work and at times is frustrating for the class, but it is
