What is Response To Intervention, RTI?
Response to intervention is a way of dealing with a student's learning and/or behavioral challenges. After a
child is identified as having difficulty, they may be referred to a team of school staff members who will meet to discuss
why the difficulty is occuring. Next, they may come up with a plan of intervention to help the child be more successful.
The plan will be implemented and monitored closely to see if it is effective or not. The intervention plan may
need to be revised in order to be more effective. Intensive intevention may be needed to make a student successful in
the classroom. However, when the level of intervention becomes so great that the regular classroom can
no longer meet the needs, or the child is making little or no gains, eligibilty for special education should be considered.
