Academic Goals:
Four Corners School Council Goals 2004-2006 are in alignment with District goals and all state standards. See the link for our School Improvement Plan below.

English Language Arts uses Scott Foresman Reading Street Program and Gary Chadwell Writing Program. Students strengthen their writing skills in all grades with the use of "Long Composition" writing prompts three times a year in addition to continuous writing opportunities in all academic areas. All areas of our ELA Curriculum meet Massachusetts Standards.

Our Mathematics Curriculum was rewritten over the summer and now uses Scott Foresman and Investigations Programs. Investigations highlight conceptual development of major math strands with the independent practice of complex skills and math facts coming from Scott Foresman. All areas of our Mathematics Curriculum meet Massachusetts Standards.

Our Science Curriculum uses the Inquiry Method of learning science content at each grade level using hands on activities. These lessons and activities also meet all Massachusetts Science Standards and include various field trips at each grade level.

Our Social Studies Curriculum also follows the standards set in the Massachusetts Social Studies Frameworks at each grade level. Many units at each grade level include field trips, hands on activities, museum visits, classoom visitors, and presenters. Writing is embedded in all content areas.

Massachusetts Technology standards are met with technology instruction at least once a week in a 20-computer Macintosh lab recently updated by our generous PTO. Students take these technology skills and apply them directly to Social Studies and Science projects being completed in the classroom.

Music, Art and PE national standards are met with instruction in these disciplines at least once a week. These disciplines are also woven into English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies whenever possible. For instance, 5th graders learn the names of the state capitals and names of the Presidents by learning them in rap songs. In Art, students learn about Mayan Art when studying Ancient Cultures. In PE, students learn about the needs of community and social responsibility and fairness while developing large motor skills.

We take great pride in our strong Responsive Classroom Model School in addition to our academic goals and MCAS preparation.
