Newton School is a small, intimate elementary school with an enrollment of approximately 200 students for kindergarten through
fourth grade. Our kindergarten is full day. Newton School has 11 classroom teachers. In addition, we have three Title teachers,
two special education teachers, a behaviorist, a school psychologist, speech and language pathologist, occupational and physical
therapists, a Reading First literacy coach, an instructional technology teacher, a music teacher, an art teacher and 2 PE
teachers.
Newton School has a strong commitment to student achievement. Our school is a recipient of a Department of Education Reading
First Grant. This grant is focused on improving English Language Arts (ELA) skills through an intensive 2 and ½ hour daily
reading and writing block using the Scott Foresman core reading program, Reading Street and a variety of targeted interventions.
Each month, the staff and I work with facilitators from the Department of Education to improve our practice in the area of
ELA.
As we continue to create rigorous educational opportunities, we provide a challenging curriculum that encourages risk
taking and a life long love of learning. We strive to give our children the skills and confidence to meet the challenges of
the 21st century and encourage in them awareness and respect for a diverse inclusive society.
We also expect students to be socially responsible and develop respect for themselves, peers, and citizens in their world
through our Responsive Classroom model.
Newton School has an active PTO and volunteer group. It is our belief that student achievement is built upon strong collaboration
between school and home. We encourage parents to become part of the school.
