Welcome Sunset

Welcome to Room 237!

I am happy to welcome you to your language arts class this year. Due to the E2T2 grant,  you will be challenged to experience technology with many hands on projects.

Also, we have been awarded another year for Go My Access, which is a web based writing program that aligns its grading process with state standards and can be used from home.

Come in and enjoy your 2008-2009 year at Glenview, where your opinion matters.

This year you will have the opportunity to have a portfolio of all your memories of your 8th grade year.  In order for it to be a success, you will need a binder or scrapbook, glue sticks, and plastic covers.  We will be working on this project all year long, and it is due at the end of the school year.  Make sure you keep all news artcles, pictures, and special assignments from your classrooms that will make your portfolio exciting.

In the News.........

Novels that we will read this year are as follows:

The Outsiders
Freak the Mighty
To Kill A Mockingbird
The Devil's Arithmetic

By the end of October, we will read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.  As you read this novel, which character will touch your heart?  Will you reflect on your treatment of other individuals?

In the month of January, we will read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.  You will experience the growth of Scout and Jem as they mature while dealing with the mystery character (Boo Radley) in their town, and the deep hatred of racism in the little town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930's.  This novel will make you sad, happy, laugh, and maybe cry.

During the months of April and May, we will finish the year with The Devil's Arithmetic; this book focuses on the Holocaust. We will end the year with Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick.

So, let's enjoy the experience and reflect on subject matter that is presented within each novel.

Please get in touch with any questions or comments on my site.
