How do I receive an
honors diploma?
You must meet all but one of the following criteria:
1. 4 English units
2. 3 Math units which shall include at least the competiencies obtained in
Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry
3. 3 units of science including at least one unit in a foundation science with an emphasis
in Chemistry and at least one unit in an applied science with an emphasis on Biology.
4. 3 units of social studies
5. Except as provided in paragraph (J)* of this rule, earn either three units of one foreign
language or two units of two foreign languages
6. One unit of fine arts
7. One unit of business/technology and two additional units in (1) through (6) above or
earn three additional units in (1) through (6) above.
8. Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four point
scale up to the last grading period of the senior year.
9. Obtain a composite score of twenty-seven on the ACT tests or an equivalent composite
score on the SAT.
Paragraph J - Not withstanding the provisions of above information of this rule, any graduating
student from any participating high school that offers neither three units of one foreign language nor two units of two foreign
languages shall have met the criterion in said paragraph by earning either three unites of foreign language or two units of
foreign language and one unit of computer science.
The State Board of Education shall designate the score or scores on the twelfth grade proficiency
test that are indicative of overall honors.
Freshman - 0
Sophomores - 5
Juniors - 10
Seniors - 16
All students must be enrolled in a secondary school program for four years before the date of
graduation.
All students must carry a minimum of six courses per semester. All students are to have
one study hall only per day. In order to participate in graduation exercises, a senior must have passed all local board
of education requred subjects, credits, paid all fees, and met all other requirements set forth by the State Board of Education.
