* Keep a journal at home to write down any questions, thoughts, or ideas to share in class.
* Read a variety of genres (ie: fables, legends, biographies, how-to, magazines, comic books).
* Learn 2-3 new words a day in the dictionary and use them in sentences.
* Practice reading grade level texts for fluency. Our goal is to read 110 words per minute by May.
* Challenge your child by asking them to tell you sets of synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and compound
words.
* Ask your child to write a summary of any books that they read.
* Have book talks with your child about different books and encourage them to share the main idea, problem, events,
solution, etc.
* Work on 2 digit addition and subtraction problems.
* Time your child on their knowledge of multiplication facts. Practice the ones that take more than 10
seconds to figure out.
* Practice properly telling time to the exact minute.
* Study various habitats and which animals you can find living there.
* Find real life objects and relate them to geometric shapes and figures.
* Discuss current issues taking place in our nation.
* Ask your child to make connections with the text they are reading.
