Principal's New Office

Posted August 16th, 2006

How the summer has passed.  With the renovations to the heating system, hiring new teachers, and possible consolidation of the two districts, the summer has flown past me.  But this is the most exciting time of the year; everything is new and we all start fresh.

With that in mind, I would like to take the time to explain some of the changes that will be occurring this year at Barry.

As stated earlier, every student will have a meal card.  Students/parents can deposit money into their accounts and use the card like a debit card for meal, milk, and ala cart items.  It is our goal that no money will be exchanged in the cafeteria.  We will be able to track charges and eating habits more easily with the new system.

Regarding registration, any new student needs to go the school as soon as possible to obtain the appropriate forms from the Office.  New middle school and high school students need to obtain their scheduled classes.  Elementary students from last year will receive 2 registration cards, Free/Reduced meal forms, dental exam proof form (K and 2nd grade), an elementary handbook (portions need to be returned to your child’s teacher) and physical forms (K and 5th only).  They will receive this information from their elementary teachers on the first day.  Middle school and high school students will receive the following items in their first hour class on Wednesday (1A): MS/HS handbook with addendums (portions will need to be returned to their 1A teacher), Free/Reduced meal form, 6th grade dental proof form, 9th grade physicals (please note that all athletic participants are required to have a physical completed prior to practice).  The 9th grade physical will be able to be used for the athletic physicals.  Physicals are valid for one calendar year from completion.  If you have already taken care of the appropriate physical forms and dental forms, please disregard the additional forms.  If you have particular situation regarding the physical and dental form, please call me at 335-7060.  We can work out any particular problems that might arise.

We would like to welcome our new teachers to the District.  Ms. Christia Norbut is our high school English teacher. Mr. Brian Tomkinson is our new high school math teacher.  Mr. Denis Tyler is our new middle school special education teacher.  Mrs. Leslie Zefo is our new band teacher.  Mrs. Karyn Beavers will teaching Title I and 8th grade reading.  Ms. Vicki Green will be teaching PE and be our Athletic Director.  We have two new names, but they are associated with not so old faces.  Ms. Natalie Teulker got married over the summer; her new name is Mrs. Natalie Van Zuiden.  Leah Kroencke, an elementary teacher, got married over the summer.  Her married name is Mrs. Leah Waters.  Congratulations and good luck to both of you.

The Principal’s Office has moved from the high school wing to the elementary wing.  My new number is 335-7060.  Please feel welcome to stop by to see the renovations to the front desk and say hello.  Dr. Spaid, our superintendent, is now in the high school wing office.

We will have an 11:15 dismissal on Wednesday August 23rd and 2pm dismissal every day until after Labor Day due to excessive heat.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call at 335-7060 or email me at barry_principal@yahoo.com.

Mr. Kirkpatrick's office will be now be located in the Elementary wing.  The best number to call to contact Mr. Kirkpatrick is 335-7060.  Please stop by to say hello.
Honor Roll Privileges for the 1st Quarter
Incoming Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who made honor roll in the 4th Quarter last year are eligible for the Honor Roll Cookout.  Hamburger and Hot Dogs along with Potato Salad, and a soda will be available during the High School Lunch time.  Students need to sign up in the Principal's Office the first week of school.

High School Students may also miss the 15 minute Dev. Ed. Period during the 2 pm dismissals.  The first 8 days of school are scheduled for 2 pm dismissals due to the heat.  Students need to sign up in the Principal's Office if they are planning to participate in this privilege.

New Meal Cards for the 2006-07 year
Starting this year, all students K-12 will be issued electronic meal cards.  Students will swipe the cards in the cafeteria, much like a debit card.  K-5 students will keep their cards in the classrooms.  6-12 students will be responsible for their own cards.

Student will send money in District provided envelopes.  Parents/students are required to print the student’s name, school ID number, and the amount of money in the envelope (either cash or check).  Families with more than student can divide one check among their students in any manner; just indicate on the envelope how the division of funds should occur.

More information will be available on this site as well being mailed home to every parent.
